MINTEK is South Africa’s national minerals research organisation and is one of the world’s leading technology organisations specialising in mineral processing, metal production and related areas. MINTEK has specialist competencies in biotechnology, mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, mineralogy, metal analysis and process engineering design.

MINTEK has expertise in undertaking fundamental and applied R&D, technology development and commercialisation and also provides commercial test work and consultancy services. The Biotechnology Division has capabilities in both tank and heap bioleaching processes including laboratory and pilot plant scale studies, development of flowsheets and desktop techno-economic studies. The division has a track record of developing and implementing bioleach technologies.

The Hydrometallurgy Division has experience in development of downstream processes for the recovery of metals, including solvent extraction, electro winning, ion exchange and precipitation
